Middle European group for integration of handicapped people

On 3 and 4 February 2009, representatives of handicapped people from the Czech and Slovak Republics and Republic of Poland met in Turčianské Teplice.

The representatives of the attending entities discussed the contents, organizational and other conditions of cooperation and they declared their interest in intensive support of their mutual cooperation when looking for effective forms of integration.

This is cooperation in particular in the field of:

  • Comparing legislation of the states from the Middle European group and EU
  • Support for realization of the mobility and social tourism program
  • Implementation of the complex rehabilitation model

The task of their meeting was to identify common problems of handicapped people and to outline their possible solutions. During the discussion, common problems were detected which task the minds of handicapped people in all three represented countries.

One of these imperfections, which are in the same time the main problem of the whole European area, is the inconsistency of fundamental rules regulating the issues of handicapped people. These rules include as a priority unambiguous definition of the term of barrier-free environment. Each state has its own legal regulation of these issues that is in most cases insufficient. One of the objectives of MEGFI it the very comparison of these legal regulations and subsequently introduction of a uniform all-European definition of a barrier-free accessibility.

The executive bodies of MEGFI are the company MIDDLE EUROPEAN GROUP FOR INTEGRATION (MEGFI) for the field of integration of handicapped people and the company MEGFI UR for the field of sustainable development.
